Is Your Health at Risk?

Health Providers Never Taught the ECS

I would say, yes, you are at risk and it is your personal health that is at risk. You have to be living in a cave if you have not heard about the CBD craze, more about that later! And, yes, we have a lot of providers that do live in the “educational” cave of their medical youth. And doctors don’t know what they don’t know, because this system has never been taught in medical school even at the time of this writing in 2019.

Those bright-eyed practitioners like me who have been in medicine for 30 or more years will have to make some major adjustments in this now 24/7 data driven world. This Endocannabinoid System (ECS) was not discovered until 1992 and those bright-eyed practitioners were approaching twenty years in practice since the 1970 prohibition on Cannabis sativa L curtailed any future learning about the critical pathways to reduce inflammation in our bodies.

Doctor, if you have not taken a recent medical review course in a while, outside of your highly specialized practice, then I suggest you do so. I just got back from 18 hours of continuing medical education (CME) wow! Now I know what I did not know!

As a physician, there is always a lot more medicine going on outside of our medical spheres. One recent good piece of news, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) at long last just approved ten applications for medical research into Cannabis sativa L. which has been held up for 44 years from independent medical research. Only the University of Mississippi had Federal approval to do cannabis research which dates back to 1970.

Yes, 49 years ago, President Nixon after creating the Controlled Substances Act (CSA), took another action and did a Presidential Executive Order (PEO) making Cannabis sativa L a Schedule one (1) drug. His action was done against the Pharmaceutical Committee that he set up to study the issue. So, this total plant by species name, Cannabis sativa L, was banned by Federal Law in toto until December 20, 2018. That is the day the Farm Bill of 2018 was signed into law. This law made part of this plant, now unscheduled and no longer under the control of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)—this is only part of the story.

On that day, December 20th, for the third or fourth time in American history, the Cannabis sativa L plant was segmented into what is to be distinguished as two different types of plants of the same plant species. This division into two separate entities of the same plant was to be determined by a concentration of a chemical compound known as 9 Delta tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) which is a natural component of the species. If the plant contained less than 0.3 % by dry weight, it would be determined as hemp, if it was greater than 0.3% by dry weight, it would be determined as medical cannabis (marijuana).

Oh yes, THC would become the big boy. The reins would be handed over to the DEA. The DEA would ride herd over this plant no matter for whatever reason…The 1937 law and the PEO of 1970 stopped production in America and made us dependent on getting our hemp from other places in the world. In fact, when the Farm Bill of 2018 was signed, we, the U.S. was the only industrialized nation in the world not growing hemp for industrial reasons—note that our luxury cars are now 17% hemp.

Now, this brings us back to CBD. In my world and hopefully yours, it would be designated as VitaminCBD™. I named this cannabinoid the first vitamin of the ECS. As previously stated, ECS is short for the Endocannabinoid System of our bodies. This biological system is in everything living but was not discovered as part of our human biological system until 1992. And note, as of a study done in 2018, 87% of medical schools still don’t teach or study this known biological system. Why?

I have written about why several times in the text above. It’s only three letters, DEA. Most healthcare providers have to have approval and a DEA number to write a prescription for drugs on the CSA list. The long made short—you cannot practice traditional medicine without a DEA number. So, this knowledge based on Cannabis sativa L and its access to the ECS has been cut. Doctors do not want to do anything that would put that number at risk, so willful blindness creeps in and makes the ECS not there.

So, here is my mission and that is to teach every provider with a DEA number about the global research and my personal sojourn about this ECS system and its need for essential vitamin supplementation and how we all can approach a better lifestyle in wellness as it is the future and the future is NOW!
